Kibber - Rumtse Trek
Duration: 18 nights / 19 Days (with option to stop trekking at Korzok which would make the trek 10 nights / 11 days)
Route: Menali - Kibber - Tangtak - Dakden - Kharsa Gongma - Tharang Yokma - Buzak - Getpa - Nurboo Sumdo - Kyangdam - Korzok - Gyamar - Gyama Barma - Nurchan - Ponganabu - Tisaling - Kyamar - Leh

For experienced trekkers only, our Kibber to Rumtse trek is for people who like a bit of a challenge! River crossings, climbing peaks and exploring valleys, the highlights of this trek are mingling with the nomads and visiting the two beautiful lakes 'Tsokar' and 'Tsomoriri'. *
*We can arrange everything you will need including a trekking guide, cook, helper, tents, mattresses, all food and required cooking equipment, transport and ponies. Local homestays are not available on for this route which means a more remote, but also more expensive kind of trek.

DAY ONE: Manali
As per your arrival time, our Manali based transfer representative will guide you to our prebooked accommodation for overnight rest. Take yourself on a day of local sightseeing - or stock up on trekking snacks which might be a valuable asset for whats ahead! We suggest a stroll down the colourful Manali mall or a visit to the pine forest enclosed ‘Hadimba Devi Mandir’ temple. Also available is a dip in the local hot springs at Tatta Pani or just a well earned rest before your trekking adventure begins. Overnight stay in Manali.
DAY TWO: Manali - Kibber
After a deserving shower, rest and breakfast you will have the first encounter with your trekking guide who will meet you at the cottage and brief you on the trek ahead. Together with your personal driver, you will transfer to Kibber village for your final night of overnight stay before the trek begins. Along the way you will pass through the small village of Kaza where you can enjoy an optional sightseeing stop n the local monastery and then cross over the Spiti River before catching your first glimpse of the Himalayas. Arrive in Kibber village in the early afternoon.
DAY THREE: Kibber - Tangtak (Approximately 4 hours trek)
Today marks the first day of your trekking journey - beginning with a well marked trail from the village and over a small river. After the crossing, you will meet your first challenging pass taking you into Tangtak where you will set up camp for overnight stay.
DAY FOUR: Tangtak - Dakden (Approximately 5 hours trek)
After breakfast, you will take a steep descent and follow a narrow gorge from Tangtak down to a long stream which you follow for most the day. Arrive to Dakden where you will set up camp for overnight stay.
DAY FIVE: Dakden - Kharsa Gongma (Approxaimtely 6 hours trek)
Begin the day with a gradual ascent towards Parang La (5800m) which is the highest pass of the trek. You will enjoy great views of the surrounding mountains before a light descent towards Kharsa Gongma where you will set up camp for overnight stay.
DAY SIX: Kharsa Gongma - Tharang Yokma (Approximately 5 - 6 hours trek)
A full day of nothingness - completely arid landscape and a leisurely walk along the river before reaching Tharang Yokma for overnight camp-stay.
DAY SEVEN: Tharang Yokma - Getpa Buzak (Approximately 5 - 6 hours trek)
Today feels like a small roller-coaster as you experience ups and then downs of easy hills before reaching Getpa Buzak.
DAY EIGHT: Getpa Buzak - Nurboo Sumdo (Approximately 6 hours trek)
Walk alongside a river for most of the day until Nurboo Sumdo for overnight camp-stay.
DAY NINE: Nurboo Sumdo - Kyangdam (Approximately 5 hours trek)
After a leisurely breakfast, you will take a straight walk and then cross the river and each to Kyangdam where you will have more chances to witness the beauty of local wildlife. Overnight camp-stay at Kyangdam.
DAY TEN: Kyangdam - Korzok (Approximately 4 hours trek)
Depart Kyangdam and walk until you can see the spectacular ‘Lake Tsomoriri’. Follow the shoreline until you reach the thriving village or Korzok where you can have proper night of rest and overnight stay by the lake.
**On this day there is an option return directly back to Leh which would make this trek only 10 nights and 11 days.
DAY ELEVEN: Rest day and recharge day at Korzok.
Refresh, rest and enjoy spectacular water views as you enjoy a full day of relaxation and rest and a second night stay at Tsomoriri Lake. (At this time you will also receive your second installment of food supplies including fresh fruit, vegetables and other dry rations. You will also have a chance for local sightseeing at the Korzok gompa, and shopping for basic requirements such as your personal snack supply etc).
DAY TWELVE: Korzok - Gyamar 4500 m (Approximately 7 hours trek)
Walk through the summer pasture land of the Korzok people and take the gradual ascent towards the high pass ‘Yalung Nyaulung’ la (5450m). At this pass you will have a stunning view of Tsomoriri Lake before your descent and overnight stay at Gyamar which offers great views of the adjacent mountains.
DAY THIRTEEN: Gyamar - Gyama Barma 5200 m (Approximately 3 - 4 hours trek)
A challenging day which involves crossing - Kartse La pass (5200 m). Overnight campstay at Gyamar Barma (5150m) which can be quite cold due to the high attitude. Be prepared for a cool night.
DAY FOURTEEN: Gyama Barma - Nuruchan 5100 m (Approximately 7 - 8 hours trek)
After a hearty breakfast cross Kyamayuru La (5410 m) Continue on the Rajungkaru where you may have a chance to encounter the Tibetan nomads known as the ‘Changpa’ people who can often be seen moving from one place to another - grazing herds of goats, sheep and yaks produce saleable materials such as ropes, clothes and shoes. (The changpa people are one of the few surviving tribes on earth to remain completely traditional despite the interaction of other civilizing influences!) Proceed onward to Horlam Kongka La (4900m) before arriving in Nuruchan where you can set up camp for overnight stay.
DAY FIFTEEN: Nuruchan - Ponganagu 4300 m (Approximately 6 hours trek)
Today you follow TsoKar Lake and you can enjoy a chance to bird spot. (If luck is on your side, you may be able to see a 'Bar headed goose', 'Crested Grebe', 'Brahmini duck' or even a'Brown-headed gull') before reaching the jeep road which you will follow up until Ponganagu. Overnight camp-stay in Ponganagu.
DAY SIXTEEN: Ponganabu - Tisaling 4250 m (Approximately 6 hours trek)
Today you will cross Shibuk La (4900m) and at the top, you will have an incredible view of the surrounding mountains as you bid farewell to Tsokar Lake. Overnight camp at Tisaling.
DAY SEVENTEEN: Tisaling - Kyamar 4200 m (Approximately 6 - 7 hours trek)
After breakfast, you will begin with gradual ascent crossing both Mandalchan La (4850m) pass and Kamur La (4800 m) pass. You will get a great view of the Changthang ranges before arriving in Kyamar for overnight campstay.
DAY EIGHTEEN: Kyamar - Rumtse 4050 m (4 hours trek) - Leh (3 hours drive)
Enjoy the final few hours as you trek from Kyamr to Rumtse and then bid farewell to your cook, ponies, and trekking guide as you drive from Rumtse to Leh and arrive at your luxury guest house in time for a well earned shower and rest in a comfortable bed!
DAY NINETEEN: Departure
Our driver will collect you from your Leh based accommodation and transfer you directly to the airport in time for your early morning flight.
