DAY ONE: Amritsar
As per your scheduled arrival time, our driver will be waiting to collect you from Amritsar airport and will transfer you directly to our prearranged accommodation. In the mid-afternoon, our driver will collect you from the hotel and transfer you to the India/Pakistan border where you watch the popular Beating the Retreat (flag) Ceremony at the Wagah border. In the evening, our driver will return you to the hotel where you will enjoy your overnight stay in Amritsar.
DAY TWO: Amritsar – Shimla (320 km / Approximately 7 hours drive)
After breakfast in the hotel, our driver will take you to the ‘Golden Temple’ which is the important Sikh shrine (also called Mecca for the Sikhs) where you can walk around and learn about the spiritual and historical traditions of the Sikhs. Next, begin the long drive to ‘Shimla’ which is the former summer capital of British India. Set amidst the snow-capped Shivalik mountain ranges and offering stunning views of the mighty Himalayas, Shimla is surrounded by pine deodar, oak and rhododendron forests. On arrival in town you can enjoy the evening at leisure – we suggest a walk down mall road before retiring in the hotel for a well earned rest. Overnight stay in Shimla.
DAY THREE: Shimla
After breakfast in the hotel, our guide will escort you on a walking tour of Shimla. Starting at the Christ Church, you will make your way through a number of old buildings such as Gaiety theatre, General Post Office, Bantony, Betink’s Castle, Imperial Bank, Railway Board Building, Gorton Castle, Knockdrin, Kennedy Cottage, Sanatorium, Cecil Hotel, Inverarm, and Viceregal Lodge whilst learning about the British influence on India. In the evening, return to the hotel for overnight stay.
DAY FOUR: Shimla - Rishikesh (290 Kms / Approximately 7 hours drive)
After breakfast in the hotel, our driver will collect you and you can make your way to Rishikesh – a famous Hindu religious destination located on the banks of the popular River Ganges. Also known as the ‘yoga capital of the world’, Rishikesh attracts thousands of devotees, yogis and adventurers from all over India and abroad – EACH DAY! A great place to relax, enjoy a cup of tea in a funky café or a yoga class and watch life go by on the Ganges. An interesting destination that will surely leave you begging for more time. Overnight stay in Rishikesh.
DAY FIVE: Rishikesh
Wake early and enjoy breakfast in the hotel. Your driver will collect you for a full day of sightseeing and take you to a variety of local tourist places including Ram Jhula and Laxman Jhula. In the evening you can witness an interesting Hindu prayer ceremony at the Triveni Ghat (overlooking the Holy Ganges) before returning to your hotel. Overnight stay in Rishikesh.
DAY SIX: Rishikesh
Today you will have a full day for rest and your own leisure. There is plenty to do in Rishikesh and lots of great places to sit and watch the world go by.
DAY SEVEN: Rishikesh – Delhi (230 Kms/ 6 Hrs)
After breakfast in the hotel our driver will collect you and transfer you to Delhi. Before checking into the hotel, our driver will take you to the Swaminarayan Akshardham complex which is a beautiful Hindu temple with well organised Hindu and Indian culture displays. You will have the rest of the day at leisure to peruse the local market on a self guided walking tour or just hang out in the hotel. Overnight stay in Delhi.
DAY EIGHT: : Delhi
After breakfast in the hotel our driver will collect you for a full day of Delhi based sightseeing. Start with a visit to ‘New Delhi’ which is a sprawling metropolis with a fascinating blend of the English impact and the way it is now. Delhi is a perfect introduction to the composite culture of an ancient land and a window to the kaleidoscope - that is India. Next, proceed to ‘Old Delhi’ and visit Raj Ghat - the memorial site where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated. Next you will make your way to ‘Jama Masjid’ which is the the largest mosque in India. Have you photo near the ‘India Gate’ which is a majestic arch (42 meters high) which was built as a memorial to the Indian soldiers killed in the World War I. (It is also known as the All India War Memorial). Return to the hotel for overnight stay.
DAY NINE: Delhi departure
Our driver will collect you from the hotel and transfer you to the airport in time for your prearranged flight.
