The warriors of Ladakh have used bows and arrows to protect themselves for eons and the art and skill of archery still persists in this land. The bow and arrows are made of bamboo, an exotic material which is scarce in this barren region. Bow strings are still made of raw hide as they were thousands of years ago. Now mostly practiced as a sport and community entertainment, archery still brings out the highest sense of enthusiasm and an immense sense of pride for its players and their villages.
